Facing Floods

Facing Floods

Facing Floods is a board game developed for the River Engineering module, specifically the River Functions and Management unit of the MSc Civil Engineering program at TU Delft. The game focuses on the challenges of river management and the role of stakeholders in decision-making within a complex and dynamic environment.

Each player takes on the role of a different stakeholder. Rijkswaterstaat advocates solutions that reduce flood water levels rather than simply raising dikes, while other stakeholders have their own visions for managing the river and its floodplains. Because these interests do not always align, players must negotiate and cooperate with one another, balancing their individual goals with the shared responsibility of managing the river.

Facing Floods was developed to help students learn about river management and stakeholder involvement, but it can be enjoyed by anyone interested in these topics.
